Bhooth, Boudi what?
Exchanged a couple of mails with the kid brother-in-law. He claims that on those days when he is feeling particularly respectful, he is going to call me 'boudi'. No offence to the language (most of the time I actually think it sounds beautiful) but boudi? Is that some variation of bhooth or what? What a name to call the new addition to your family!

My sister has refused to call hubby to be "JamaiBabu"..the oh-so-respectful, archaic term for brother in law. She prefers adding the da to his name essentially. Now that makes the relationship really strange...my husband is also my sister's brother...literally!!! From that point of view Boudi is nicer (no confusion of relationships there!!).
hmm, interesting kid-brother-in-law, calling you bride-sister (boudi => bou + di) :)

No. Not bhoot. Neither boudi is a respectful appellation. The word derives from the english word bad. Historically and also traditionally Bengali sis-in-laws are what the above english word suggests. Hence the name. Ask Bill, he will testify. Have a go to turn the tide.
Cosmic splendour - The wedding is set for the 5th of Dec. Will def keep you guys updated!
